Hydrotherapy is the use of water to maintain health or promote healing.
Benefits of Hydrotherapy include: warmth, hydrostatic pressure, resistance and buoyancy
Warmth: To help muscles relax thus decreasing pain and muscle spasming. To increase range of motion.
Hydrostatic Pressure: Helps to reduce swelling by applying pressure against the body.
Resistance: To build strength and cardiovascular endurance.
Buoyancy: To decrease the stress and compression forces on bones and joints during movement. To
support the body to allow for activity.
Indications for Hydrotherapy include:
Weight loss / management
Generalized conditioning (muscle strengthening and cardiovascular)
Following injury or surgery (after incision has healed)
Generalized weakness or immobility
